  • The Tax Lien Sale is held once a year between October 15 and November 22 at the courthouse.
  • The sale date and delinquent list is published three times beginning in September in the Wetzel Chronicle.
  • Sale starts at 9:00 a.m. Bidders need to arrive at least 30 minutes before the sale in order to register and receive a bidder number.
  • Bids cannot be accepted by mail, telephone, or fax.
  • Bids start at the total amount of the delinquent and current year taxes.
  • Per WV Code – no heirs are to be bidding on delinquent taxes. If you are an heir or your spouse is an heir, you cannot receive property from a tax lien sale by any direct or indirect means. If you are an heir, you cannot have someone else purchasing property from a tax lien sale and then deed it over to you.
  • All property purchased at the Tax Lien Sale must be paid on the day of the sale. WV Code 11A-3-5
  • No payments will be collected until the sale is finished.
  • All sales are final and must be paid on the day of sale. It is the bidder’s responsibility to know what they are bidding on at the sale.
  • It is the bidder’s responsibility to be aware of all WV Codes for the Tax Lien Sale.
  • After the sale, redemptions are handled by the WV State Auditor’s Office.
  • All title examinations must be prepared by an attorney.
  • If the purchaser does not secure a deed within 18 months, the purchaser forfeits all rights pursuant to WV Code 11A-3-18.
